Correction to CFP Campaign Finance Report

Another self-disclosure in the name of transparency.

Citizens for Purcellville recently filed our campaign finance report that is due on 10/15/2026. This report covers the period from 09/01/2026 through 10/07/2026 and is available online at:

https://cfreports.elections.virginia.gov

Editor’s Note: As of this posting, our most recent filing is not available on the State Board of Elections website. It may not be available until after the deadline on 10/15. The amended reports ARE available.

Although we know that making this post will likely result in our detractors responding in an attempt to attack our overall efforts, we feel that honest and open discussion about our finances (as well as those of other candidates, individuals, or organizations working to influence our local election) is important.

Because of that commitment to transparency, we wanted to let our followers know that while compiling data for the report we just filed, WE IDENTIFIED THREE ERRORS IN OUR PREVIOUSLY FILED REPORT. The errors were in our our initial reporting period of 06/17/2026 to 08/31/2026.

We have submitted three amendments to the previously filed report to correct the following items:

  • In our previous report, 1 donation from an individual was reported as a $25 contribution in the original report as opposed to the total donation amount of $26.35. This donation has been amended to reflect an additional $1.35 received (additional funds contributed by the donor to cover donation processing fees).
  • In our previous report, we failed to report a total of $61.87 in donation processing fees. This was an accounting/reporting error on our part and attributed in part to the fact that these fees are automatically withheld from bank deposits from incoming donations (as opposed to being charged or billed to us). While we reported the INCOME correctly, we failed to account for the EXPENDITURE. We have amended the previous report to reflect this “withheld expense”. (A total of 10 new expenses (covering 31 total transactions) were entered in our previous report, one for each day that donations were received via the Anedot fundraising platform.)
  • A reconciliation of our bank statement against our reported income also identified that failed to disclose a cash deposit/contribution in the amount of $0.11 cents by Google, Inc when we connected our bank account to pay for our Google Workspace and Cloud Storage subscriptions. We have added a single contribution to our previous report. It has been our experience that this sum is normally later withdrawn, but as of today, it had not been, so we are reporting it as a contribution to ensure our report matches our cash on hand to the penny.

Materially, none of these errors significantly changes the source of income or significantly alters the previously filed reports, however it does reduce the reported cash on hand at the end of the last reporting period by $63.33.

As the candidates for Town Council and Mayor file their campaign finance reports in the days ahead, we will work to provide additional analysis of each candidate’s reporting in a timely manner.
